Have you ever sent an urgent work message? Maybe you needed to inform your manager about a data change or you had to provide an update to a client.
Sometimes, we have a lot to say but don't always have the time to do so. Whether it's because of multiple projects or approaching deadlines, you may need to find a more concise way to convey your message. That's where abbreviations and slang come in to help.
"ICYMI", USA TODAY has been breaking down text slang. We've already covered various explainers on different phrases, such as "OOO" and "lmk", that can also be used in the workplace.
Now, it's time to learn a new one. Here is the meaning and how to use "EOD".
What does 'EOD' mean?
"EOD" stands for "end of day."
Often used in business settings, the term notifies the recipient that something will be happening by the end of the workday. Whether you need to quickly file a report or a new meeting has been added to your schedule, the term denotes a deadline. You can also put a day of the week (i.e. Monday or Thursday) after "EOD" to specify further.
It can be used while messaging, such as via Slack or Teams, or emailing.
You can also use the modified version "EOW", which means "end of week." This form is used in the same way. The only difference is the time frame switches from day to week.
How to use 'EOD'
Here are some examples of how to use "EOD":
- "I should be able to get you the article EOD Wednesday."
- "All hands on deck, the data set has to be completed by EOD."
- "We will push our Monday meeting until EOW since the new numbers are set to come out later."
